West Sound STEM NetworkWest Sound STEM Network is a dynamic collaboration of educators, business leaders, and representatives from local government and the military, working to introduce and link students, teachers and the community to the vast array of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) resources in our region. As with other STEM Networks in Washington, the goal is to enhance student learning in these key academic areas. Our students' ability to understand and apply science, technology, engineering and math principles not only increases their understanding of the world, but also translates to innovation and advancement for local business and industry.

From Pinholes to Space TelescopesFrom Pinholes to Space Telescopes: How Telescopes Work takes teachers through the basics of what optical systems such as cameras, telescopes, and our eyes have in common. This teacher workshop explores the phenomenon of image formation using simple materials through a scaffolded instructional sequence including pinhole viewers, and lenses. The workshop culminates in participants building their own telescope, a Galileoscope, and receiving a class set of 24 shipped directly to their school. See EVENTS! page for details.
Cyber Security Camp in PoulsboWestern Washington University is offering a free Cybersecurity Camp for 25 teachers and 30 middle-school students this summer in Poulsbo. This camp includes a field trip each week to the WWU Sea Discovery Center in Poulsbo where Teachers and students will explore cybersecurity themes and principles in a hands-on marine environment, and get an opportunity to see technology in action including building water weather platforms as part of a community science project.
